Vic´s Fantastic Florida Day 2 Welcome to the Bahia Honda State Park. Let´s park the car and head out to the beach. Since the weather was nice the park was quite busy, but here is the good thing about this park, if you like a little more privacy you can walk a little to find an unclaimed spot for yourself and your company far away from other people, if you prefer to be around other people you can just hop onto the beach below the parking lot. There is enough stretch of sand for everybody, its awesome. I decided to stay on my own so I went to the park concession and rented some snorkeling gear, headed out to a lonely part of the beach and hit the water. Snorkeling gear on, camera ready, let´s see if we can find any fish in the water. An important advice: However you need to be carefull at the beach and in the water since the Portuguese Man-O-War (a very poisonous marine stinger) could be in the water or washed ashore. They are not uncommon in Florida waters, especially the shores facing the Southern Atlantic waters. Even if washed ashore and already dead for many hours, they do still sting and posess a very potent poison inside and are dangerous especially for children playing at the shore. On my trip I did encounter one of these species washed ashore and I conducted a self test and touched it. Even though the contact was for a fraction of a second the effect of the sting could be felt immediately as my finger started to itch and burn very bad and felt numb after a minute ...
